General Service
What is streaming?
Streaming is a method in which video is played in real time while the video data is being received. Because playback is possible without downloading all data in advance, users can watch video without waiting for the download to complete. In addition, since the data is not stored on the user’s computer, it provides advantages in terms of copyright protection.
What are the advantages of streaming compared to downloading?
High-resolution or long-form video content can result in extremely large file sizes. Unlike download distribution, streaming does not require files to be saved to the playback device, eliminating the need to use the end user’s storage capacity. This makes it an ideal delivery method for devices with limited storage, such as smartphones. In addition, because content is not downloaded to the user’s device, there is reduced risk of unauthorized copying or secondary use.
What is encoding?
Encoding is the process of converting recorded video content into formats suitable for streaming distribution (such as HLS or MPEG-DASH). The software or hardware used to perform encoding is called an encoder. An encoder can convert video input directly from a camera or other source, or it can convert previously stored files.
What is the difference between on-demand streaming and live streaming?
On-demand streaming allows users to watch video or audio content at any time they choose. Live streaming, on the other hand, delivers concerts or events over the internet in real time as they take place.
How long does it take from application to service activation?

Can I verify how the service works before implementing the video streaming service?
Yes, advance operational verification is available. We provide a demo environment for customers who wish to test functionality beforehand. Aside from certain limitations such as usage period and the number of simultaneous accesses, the demo environment offers the same specifications as the standard service. Please note that availability is limited, and there may be a waiting period before access can be provided.
Can you also handle video production?
We do not provide video production services, so customers are required to prepare their own video content. However, we can introduce video production companies if needed.

How are fees calculated if service is started or canceled mid-month?
If service is started or terminated partway through a month, fees will be calculated on a prorated daily basis according to the actual number of days the service was used.
How do I apply for the service?
Please complete the required information on the application form provided by our sales representative and return it by mail. If you are in a hurry, you may submit it by email; however, the original document must still be sent by mail. Please submit your application at least five business days prior to your desired start date. For live streaming, please apply two to three weeks in advance of the scheduled broadcast.
What are the delivery environment specifications?
Under the Basic Plan, customers share a delivery environment with a maximum total bandwidth of 3TB. The Premium Plan offers unlimited delivery bandwidth. Please note that restrictions may be applied during periods of high access volume (exceeding 10,000 simultaneous connections).
How many users share the same server?
The number of users per server is not disclosed. Our system is designed to ensure sufficient capacity to meet customer requirements and provide stable streaming performance.
Are there limits on content encoding (compression) bitrates?
Both the Basic Plan and Premium Plan have a maximum limit of 15 Mbps.
How should I calculate the required disk capacity?
The required disk capacity is the total of the original source file size plus the size of the encoded files.
What types of devices and operating systems are supported for streaming?

Please ensure that the HTML document declaration <!DOCTYPE html> and the character encoding definition <meta charset="utf-8"> are properly specified.
The player appears, but the screen remains black and playback does not start.
In the web player settings, "Control" may be set to "no" and "Autoplay" may be set to "no." Please set "Control" to "yes" and try again.
How can I check my current disk usage?
You can check it from the Management Screen.
I would like to reduce disk usage. What can I do?
You can reduce disk usage by deleting older video files that are no longer publicly available.
Can I restrict video access to specific users only?
Yes, access can be restricted to specific users by combining password authentication, IP address restrictions, and other access controls.
This is my first time using video streaming. Is support available?
Our experienced staff provide courteous and thorough support, so please feel free to contact us with any questions. In addition, all operations—from uploading videos to delivery—can be easily performed through a web browser, and no specialized knowledge is required.
I’m not sure which SmartSTREAM plan to choose.
We recommend the SmartSTREAM Video Platform, which enables anyone to easily implement video streaming. However, if you prefer to use your own encoding equipment or require customization, SmartSTREAM Rental is recommended. Please feel free to contact us for guidance.
How long does video encoding take?
Encoding requires more time than the actual duration of the video being processed.
Can the service be integrated with social media?
In addition to providing embed code, content can be shared on X and Facebook.
There is a user account named “smc (for viewing).” What is it used for?
This account is used to manage and monitor usage status.
Can content be viewed from overseas?
Yes, content can be viewed not only within Japan but also from overseas via the internet.
Is there a trial version available so I can try the service first?
We offer a free 30-day trial environment for evaluation. There is no automatic transition to the paid version. Please feel free to try it out.
I’m concerned about content leaks and unauthorized viewing. Is it safe to stream over the internet?
The SmartSTREAM Video Platform offers secure delivery features to protect your content and maintain confidentiality, including IP address restrictions, password authentication, one-time URL functionality*, and HLS AES key authentication*. You can use the service with confidence.
